"Back in 2013 or early 2014 I was approached by Lasse Grönroos, the rock journalist behind such programmes as Metallväktarna, Café Satan and Grönroos Garage, as well as a punk veteran, to co-produce a compilation of Fenno-Swedish punk music from the ages. I had been the editor of a music blog called ZXC Music for about seven years, and back when I started it in 2007, no-one in the Fenno-Swedish media gave two fucks about all the great rock and punk bands that existed within the community. I am not too humble as to not take some of the credit for the fact that in 2014, when I called it quits as far as the blog was concerned, people actually did give a fuck, and we thought there might be some interest for a compilation showcasing the rich history and present of Fenno-Swedish punk. This was corroborated by a small grant from Kulturfonden, which made the compilation a reality. Going over the songs now seven years later, it strikes me that this was a different era, one in which Helsinki was till riddled with small, dirty bars and clubs for trashy outfits to play in, and when you could go out and see a small punk, metal or garage rock gig every weekend, or almost every week day if you were so inclined. But the era between 2000 and 2015 was also a very interesting era, bubbling with garage-level musical activity within the Fenno-Swedish community, riddled with brilliant bands that no-one had ever heard of, and most never did. I am extremely happy that Elitbolaget has decided to publish the ZXC Music compilation digitally. The vinyls are now all but sold out, and it is thrilling that this music will now be available for a larger audience. Just like our great authors, poets and artists, these garage musicians are part of the Fenno-Swedish cultural heritage, and worthy of recognition.
