Rakennus oli pitkän aikaa tyhjillään ja alkanut ränsistyä, kunnes PUNK ry (Pääkaupunkiseudun underground-nuorisokulttuuriyhdistys) vuokrasi sen Helsingin kaupungilta vuodesta 2002 alkaen. Rakennusta kunnostettiin talkoovoimin. Vuoritalolla toimi kolme bändiharjoitustilaa, pöytäjalkapallosaluuna sekä PUNK ry:n ja Anarkistisen Toiminnan toimistot.
